"Spring into Tawa" Market Day takes place in the vicinity of Tawa Plaza and the Main Road shops each September. It's an occasion for the community to come together to buy whatever's on offer at the many and varied stalls, and to enjoy some of the entertainment being provided.
Students from the NZ Radio Training School traditionally play the role of 'MC' (or MCs) and do a great job in running a few games and competitions, mostly but not exclusively for the kids. And the Red Hackle Pipe Band traditionally marches along the Main Road and into the plaza area later in the morning (around 11.30am) to entertain the crowd with a few items.
Right on midday we will hold Tawa's 'annual' waterballon-catching competition - well, we've done it once before, a couple of years back and it might just become an annual event. You never know!
There will be other entertainment as follows:
- Harry the Clown - balloons for the kids
- Face painting
- Tawa Go Go Nuts (Cook Island) drumming group at 11am
- Morris dancers
- Tawa College street entertainers
- BB Learners' Band
- Tawa Volunteer Fire Brigade
- Alpacas turning up at some point
This year (2009), Spring into Tawa is being held from 9am to 12.30pm, wet or fine. We will have around 60 stallholders offering their wares (or whatever) on the day. No more bookings are being accepted.
